Meeting with the Tin Man

So today, having first spoken eighteen months or so ago, I finally got to meet up with the Tin Man's flesh interface, otherwise known as Neil Rennison. He very kindly made the journey to deepest rural Wiltshire to talk all things Tin Man Games and Gamebook Adventures - Temple of the Spider God in particular.

With our Vitality scores dwindling, we then headed off to the Tale of Spice in nearby Pewsey to continue our various conversations over a middle of the day curry. Business lunches don't get better than this!

Just one wafer thin mint...

Temple of the Spider God is on course for an August release. For more news watch this space or check out the Tin Man's own website here.

Temple of the Spider God

I've been sitting on this one for almost a year now (and have had to be somewhat evasive when people have asked me about the possibility online) but I can finally tell the world that I am writing the seventh title in Tin Man Games Gamebook Adventures line.
Temple of the Spider God should be released this July and you can read more via the press release Tin Man Games have put here. I will of course be updating this blog with more news as and well as well. But in the meantime, arachnophobes should do what they can to prepare themselves...

Nostalgia kick

I don't know why, but I've been on a bit of a nostalgia kick lately. Yesterday I sat down and watched the very first two episodes of the seminal Robin of Sherwood. I own every series on DVD now (I wore out the VHS versions long ago) but it's been a while since I watched them - years in fact. But I intend to watch the whole lot again in order over the next few weeks.

As well as the 80s I also love my iPod - I recently bought the theme music to that other 80s classic of television, The One Game. I used to only be able to satisfy my desire to listen to Saylon Dola by leaving the menu page on the DVD running but now I can listen to it wherever and whenever I like. And you can listen to it right here...

And then there's Knightmare. I loved this as a kid, which was hardly surprising seeing as how I was a Fighting Fantasy fan and this was the closest I was ever going to get to living my dream. But thanks to Mark Charn Newton I also came across this the other day - scathing and funny, and just a little bit rude. You were warned.

Spotlight on Pirkka Harvala

Tin Man Games are running a feature on Pirkka Harvala, the artist behind many of the illustrations to appear in their new iGamebook App An Assassin in Orlandes. You can read an interview with the Finnish magician himself here, and check out his artwork here.

Deathtrap Dungeon

Probably the best Fighting Fantasy gamebook ever is now available as an App for your iPhone/iPod Touch. Featuring Iain McCaig's classic artwork now in glorious technicolour, Ian Livingstone's 80s masterpiece is the latest must have for the discerning iDevice gamer.

You can read more about the new App from Big Blue Bubble here, but from what I hear, you might want to hold off buying it until they've sorted out a few bugs that have somehow crawled into Sukumvit's Trial of Champions.

I always loved this picture...

Gamebook Adventures - one to watch

Coming to an iPhone or iPod Touch near you in January are two new adventure gamebooks! Tin Man Games, an Australian Based company, are launching Siege of the Necromancer and An Assassin in Orlandes for your favourite iDevice in the New Year.

Featuring original artwork to accompany the games you will also have to shake your iDevice to roll dice and determine the outcome of particular encounters. I would suggest that all FF fans keep a look out for these games. I'm hoping to get hold of them myself and will post a review here in due course.

Until then, you can find out more here. You can also follow Gamebook Adventures on Facebook and Tin Man Games via Twitter.
